A post-emergent broadleaf and grassy weed herbicide for use in field, seed and sweet corn crops has picked up a new Canadian distributor.

Amvac Chemical Corp., maker of Impact herbicide, has named Guelph-based Engage Agro to be the product's exclusive distributor and marketer in Canada.

Impact, a Group 27 topramezone herbicide, offers both "crop safety and flexible application timing" for corn growers, the company said in a release Thursday.

Engage Agro's row-crop product manager, Bob Hamilton, described Impact as "an ideal tank mix partner for managing those tough-to-control weeds or those weeds that may have developed herbicide resistance."

Impact, Engage Agro said, is typically tank-mixed with atrazine for burndown of "various" broadleaf weeds and annual grasses in conventional corn varieties, while in glyphosate-tolerant fields, the product is "commonly" tank-mixed with glyphosate and atrazine for "rapid" burndown and improved weed control over glyphosate alone.

Engage Agro president Ray Chyc said the company will work with California-based Amvac to "ensure (Impact's) availability to corn producers for the upcoming season."
